My name is Jennifer Jaye Preston, and I go by Jaye. I grew up in Southern California, but have lived in a few different states across the country. After getting a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I took my first post-college job in an addictions treatment center for adolescents. I quickly learned that I really wanted to do more in the clinical field, and started a master’s program at Avila College in Counseling that would allow me to get a clinical license in the state of Missouri. I worked for several years in clinical practice before entering a PhD program at Oregon State University in Counselor Education and Supervision.
Professionally, I am the department chair and instructor for masters and PhD level students in the Counseling department at Saybrook University. My primary focus has been working with individuals that experienced high levels of trauma, and violence in relationships. My interest in the use of ketamine to support traditional therapy started back in 2021, when I started to learn more about how impactful psychedelics can be, especially for folks with treatment resistant depression, or complex PTSD. I also have a special interest in the use of ketamine to support death anxiety for those with terminal illness. My interest in this work had lead me to become a certified death midwife, and to receive additional training in the use if psychedelics, and ketamine in therapeutic settings.
I currently live in NC with my wife, and our two rescue pups. We have two adult kids in college. When I'm not working we enjoy traveling, spending time in the outdoors and listening to live music.
I believe deeply in each person's capacity for healing, and that with support, a deeper feeling of wellness is possible. I also understand that ketamine or other plant medicines can allow for a type of healing that is well beyond what traditional therapy or pharmaceuticals can support.
I also believe in the importance of preparation and integration services, for people to make sense of the lessons the medicine is teaching.
I have more than 25 years of experience in the mental health field. I have spent the last 18 years as a Counselor Educator and researcher. My professional work is guided by a trauma informed and a feminist theory framework. I center and prioritize relationships in my work, and the unique experiences that each person brings to our shared space.
